Another Liberian Joins Presidential Race
As the 2011 General and Presidential Elections draw nearer, Liberians especially politicians from a diverse background have begun announcing their intention to take the nation's highest seat. The latest is Mr. David B. Hoff who last week openly declared his intention to contest the presidency during next year's presidential and legislative elections. Mr. Hoff who is expected to run on the ticket of the proposed People's National Democratic Party stated that when elected his priority will be in the area of health care, safe drinking water, paved roads, housing, agriculture, electricity and many more which will be highlighted in his platform.
“Our vision and mission is to create a democratic government where social progress is evident in the lives of the citizenry and foster a more market driven environment”, he stated. The presidential aspirant said his government will use energy-wind, solar, hydro and battery technology for electricity and major rivers to make drinking water safe and affordable and accessible. He pointed out that the basic thing to do as a government is to make the people live a real life; meaning that they should be able to meet their basic social needs. “Nowadays, many of our people are still going to bed without food, good healthcare and safe drinking water,” he propounded.
In the area of education, the Presidential hopeful said his administration will create a web of colleges, elementary, high schools and technical institutions in all of the fifteen political sub-divisions with schools being built in the rural areas for every child to have access to education. He however said the current government has done well by maintaining peace in the country, but development progress remains at a slow pace. He said revenue generated by government should be used to economically empower the people.
“If money is collected by the government and that same money is used to empower our people economically, our partners who we have borrowed from will be willing to help us,” he said. Mr. Hoff who grew up and got his secondary education from Robertsport, Grand Cape Mount County previously worked with lots of government ministries in Liberia including the Ministry of Public Works where he held the Housing Initiative and Road Networking where he constructed the Belafina Housing Project which took him four years to complete.
According to him, he also became a Senior Trainer at the Ministry of Finance, a position in which he worked with Maritime, Customs, and Internal Revenue and other critical departments at the Ministry of Finance. In the US, Mr. Hoff served as the Chief of Security with the Hurst Euless Bedford Independent School District for 10 years. He is currently a businessman and the President of Professional Properties; a Real Estate Group in Texas, USA.
