The Youth Wing of the new Unity Party yesterday said it supports the second term of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. Speaking at yesterday's Independence celebration at the headquarters of the ruling Unity Party, partisan Roberts Jackson who is the spokesman of the Montserrado Youth Wing of the Unity Party urged Liberians to vote President Sirleaf for second term. In his deliberation, he outlined some of the many developments that this government has achieved through the instrumentality of the able leadership of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

“Today we can see roads being rehabilitated, hospitals being built, schools including the Fendell newly built facilities, the Tappita Hospital and many other projects, “he stated. He said the government has also introduced a system to decentralize development in the fifteen political –sub divisions with the introduction of the County Development Funds, the increment in the salaries of civil servants from eighteen United States dollars to at least eighty United States dollars and putting into place a perfect judiciary system where the government today loses cases against individuals.

“This administration has introduced freedom of speech and freedom of the press that every Liberian is free to express themselves on ills in society,” he emphasized. The tough-talking Unity Party youth spokesman explained further that the government has given local and foreign scholarships to students across Liberia which is one of the motivating factors that is pushing the young people to go for higher education.

“One of those things that was promised by President Sirleaf during the 2005 elections was to maintain peace in Liberia if elected president which she has done. I call on all peace loving Liberians to join the President in maintaining the peace so that this country will move forward,” Mr. Jackson stressed. He said the decentralization of the Independence Day celebration by Madam Ellen Johnson has brought some economic development and benefits in those counties that have hosted the Independent celebration.

He concluded by calling on all Liberians to give full support to President Ellen's second term bid in 2011. Also speaking during the program, a representative of the Women's Wing of the interim leadership of Montserrado County of the ruling Unity Party, madam Agatha Robinson stated that the Ellen led government has done well for the past five years and should therefore be given the chance for the second time. She explained further that Madam Sirleaf has the heart of a man contrary to what some people to women as weaklings. “If you educate a man, you have educated an individual, but if you educate a woman you have educated a whole nation," she quoted an adage.

She also joined her colleague by calling on all the women and Liberians in general to join the cause for President Sirleaf's second term bid and she concluded by thanking the Youth Congress of the Unity Party for organizing the program. Yesterday's program was organized by the National Youth Congress of the ruling Unity Party to commemorate the 163rd Independence Day celebration that was simultaneously held in all of the counties.
