39 Bangladeshi Repatriated
Thirty-nine Bangladeshis that were recently trafficked in the country by six of their country men have been repatriated to their country of origin. The Bangladeshi men left the country via the Roberts International Airport early yesterday, when the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization (BIN), in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), reached a decision to have them repatriated. Speaking to this paper yesterday via phone when he made the disclosure, the Communications Director of the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization (BIN), said out of the detained Bangladeshi that were held in detention by the bureau, one could not be part of the repatriation process because he did not possess a passport to board a flight.
The six Bangladeshis who are reportedly linked to the trafficking of those deported yesterday are still being held by Liberian authority and are awaiting court trial on charge of human trafficking. It could be recalled that recently some forty Bangladeshi men were held at the Liberia National Police Training Academy after news surfaced that they were allegedly being trafficked in the country by six of their countrymen. Upon receiving the information, the Immigration Bureau launched an investigation and subsequently apprehended the 40 men, before they were repatriated yesterday to their home country.
