NEC Chair Credibility Upheld
A member of the opposition National Democratic Party (NDPL) has defended the credibility of the Chairman of the National Elections Commission (NEC) urging opposition parties in the country to refrain from expressing doubt in his ability and credibility to conduct the up-coming elections in 2011. Mr. Daniel Fassa says he has observed that since the 2005 elections, the James Fromoyan led elections commission has conducted series of by-elections, which were credible and with indisputable results. He noted that the outcome of by-elections that has been so far conducted by the commission clearly shows that the current Elections Commission is impartial. He recalled that during the River Gee County By-Elections between the ruling party candidate Commany Wesseh and Mr. Nathanial Williams, it was widely speculated that the ruling party would have emerged winner with the help of the commission.
Mr. Fassa said contrary to the report, the results were released as it emerged out of the process and the opposition candidate Mr. Nathanial Williams won the elections. He urged the opposition to embark on strategies to winners in the up-coming elections rather than crying foul when in fact the elections are still far ahead. n
He then urged the Chairman of the Commission to remain resolute and steadfast in the face of what he termed, “unwarranted criticisms.” He said these unwarranted criticisms are divisionary tactics of detractors intended to intimidate the Commission.
