Prince Johnson Refutes Media Report
Nimba County Senior Senator and the Liberian Senate Representative to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament in Abuja Nigeria, and one of the new comers in the Presidential race in 2011 Presidential and General Elections, Honorable Prince Y. Johnson has described what he termed as erroneous and total nonsensical inference attributed to him in the Wednesday February 3, 2010 edition of the New Democrat Newspaper captioned “No jobs for Book people in Prince Johnson's government. According to a press release issued yesterday from the offices of the Senator, he said the New Democrat Newspaper on Wednesday ran a front page story under the above caption insinuating that Senator Johnson during his discussion on a local radio program “Melting Point” had indicated that if elected as President of the Republic of Liberia, there would be no room for any educated man in his government, something Senator Johnson has described as mere fallacy intended to paint him ugly in the intellectual circle as well as the student populace of Liberia.
The release added that the Senior Senator and Presidential hopeful come 2011 reacting further indicated that for any sober minded individual to even arrive at such a nonsensical determination such a 'no job for book people” is far beyond his imagination, especially so when he is among lawmakers at the Liberian Senate that are pushing for the Ministries of education, Health, Agriculture and Public Works budget to be increased. The release added that the Senator wishes to make it clear that when elected as President of the Republic of Liberia he will educate people with substance and with Liberia at heart including those that have undertaken meaningful self help development in the country such as construction and entrepreneurship will form major components of his government. He indicated that such approach will be intended to disabuse the minds that only people from the Diaspora can perform miracle in the development of post war Liberia than their home based counterparts.
Meanwhile, Senator Johnson noted: “To suggest that there will be no room for anyone educated in my government when elected as president of the Republic would simply amount to declaring education irrelevant, saying,” If that was the case I would not spend thousands of United States Dollars annually on my children's education”. Concluding, the Nimba County Senior Senator and Presidential hopeful aid while he upholds the tenets of free press and free speech, however, he hopes that the New Democrat newspaper and any other local daily would feel free to contact him in the event they have doubts over any news emanating from his office.
